The Remake Type You Need, But Never Ask For

We watched the latest State of Play and thought it was ok. Then we saw several remakes and remasters, and we have some ideas and questions.

The question we have is with all the remakes today, where are the bad games? Why don’t studios ever remake games that were bad or a step down to be more like the good games in the series? With all those who want remakes or remasters, they never ask for those games to be fixed.

The God of War trilogy is being remade and we don’t think thats a good idea. We think they will try to make it like the modern ones. If they remake Ascension with a redone story with visuals and gameplay more like God of War 3, I’d be interested.

Another type of remake that can be done is the engine ports. Not to the ones everyone is using, but the newer version of the in house ones. I would be very interested if GoW: Ghosts of Sparta got ported to the new Santa Monica engine using new assets.

Theres also the MGS4 and Peace Walker ports to PS5. We like MGS, but this was just ok to us. Why not port Peace Walker to Fox engine or use MGS3 remake assets? Even in the trailer, the visuals were grainy. MGS4 just looks like they removed the yellow filter and upressed it, like you can do on the emulator. It would be cool if they just rereleased MGSV remastered with a completed story based off Kojima’s concepts and ideas.

Dino Crisis 3 was a game that was changed in the middle of development. It is now regarded as the worst in the series. People have been wanting RE engine remakes. You could redo the trilogy, and the third game to how it was supposed to be.

Devil May Cry 2 was so bad that they never admitted who the original director was. They only list the person who came and tried to salvage it. Remake it with modern DMC combat, redone story, and redone levels.

Deus Ex Invisible War is another one. It would be a big job to make it more like the prequels, but we would be hyped for it. Having a city and systems similar to the prequels sounds great.

If EA said they were remastering Mass Effect 3 and Andromeda with redone stories, I’d be open to it. Though I’d still be unsure if what was being added was relevant to the story. It would need to be done with the original writers to make their original vision for the game, without the time constraints that hurt it.

We’re not the biggest fans of remasters and remakes, but we’d be open to these. It would go along way in showing devs care.  Bad sequels aren’t just put out and the series ends. The reason being changes that were made no one wanted
