Lessons Not Learned: A Steam Story

When they first announced Steam Machine, we felt it wasn’t going to work. Its just another PC, but with weaker specs than consoles that cost more. We saw that the it’s being reviewed by critics, and there’s some issues
Valve still hasn’t learned about the console market. You can’t have a console with no exclusives, its just another PC. Why do we need this? Who is it for? Consoles are already in the living room. People have small form factor PCs to put in the living room. There’s also Steam streaming devices and apps. The one thing Valve learned was you cant make a console with different specs.
The price is also an issue. The Steam Machine is weaker than consoles, but is more expensive. It’s also a lot weaker than people thought. Even if this had a similar price to consoles, it still wouldn’t be a good idea.
People always say Valve is the most pro-consumer company in gaming. The cheapest version of the console doesn’t come with a controller. That version is also more expensive than the most expensive console.

If the chip shortage is so bad, don’t make it or hold off on it. Theres no reason for it to exist. Console and PC people have little reason to use it. PC usually gets the worst ports, so why would a console person want to play the worse port, and at lower settings? Why would a PC person spend that much money when they can buy a streaming device, or move their PC into their living room? Why would a newcomer to gaming want a PC, and why would they choose this over a prebuilt rig?
Valve still hasn’t learned you can’t take what works on PC and make a console. It didn’t work for the first Steam Machine, and it’s not going to work now. Several companies have tried to change or disrupt the console market, and it didn’t work.
