Return of the PSP…3?

I keep seeing rumors for a new Sony handheld. They’re saying it’s going to be a handheld PS4 that plays the console games. There was also specs for it leaked and a release time.

We liked the PS Vita and have said how underrated it is. The console failed because Sony stopped marketing it, and slowed first party games. The reason was because Sony was in a bad place financially and put its resources behind the PS4. Had it come out a few years later it would’ve been a success. Maybe releasing around 2015-2016 instead of PSVR would have been great.

How do we feel about another PS handheld? We would be up for it but Sony needs to stick with it. Don’t release it, then only do a few first party exclusives like PSVR2. I also dont want it to be expensive like with VR, then the price is dropped by 40% and you wonder if they care about it. Was it that cutting edge or that costly to make?

One thing people are interested in the new PSP is it’s supposed to play console games. I don’t want this, I want dedicated games. Its great having games that take advantage of a consoles unique features and hardware.

People are pointing to the success of the Switch, as why others should make a hybrid console. Its not going to work like it did for Nintendo for others. Nintendo combined its successful portable and home console into one. Their use of cartoon graphics also allowed them to make games for cheap and weak hardware.

The idea of playing PS AAA games on the go sounds good,  but there more issues. On the go gaming is for short bursts, when you’re going places in your day. Thats why mobile games are made that way. PSP and Vita were made to have simple gameplay loops. The AAA spin offs of popular console games were made to be bite size versions of those games.
