The State of the Latest State of Play
We got a chance to check out the State of Play. We like watching game shows and seeing announcements. Some are better than others, but how good was this one?
We really have to address the PS5 Pro. Sony still didn’t give us a reason we should be buying one. Mark Cerny came on the show to say the same things that didn’t sell anyone before. He went on to say the Pro is here for graphics, then showed a reel of a bunch of old games and a few new ones running on it. Did they look better? Yes, but not $700 worth. The new PS5 plates did look cool, but are only for the slim.
At the end of the Pro reel, they revealed Ghost of Yotei. The game is a sequel to Tsushima and we were excited and thought it stole the show. But we’re wondering are they done with Jin or will they discuss him in the game? Someone showed the actress playing Atsu, the new ghost. She follows specific ideologies and ones that usually have actors and devs pushing their agendas into the games. We’re hoping that’s not the case.
Metro: Awakening was the next thing we were looking forward to. The animations and some story points looked a little weird in the trailer. It’s good to know Dmitry Glukhovsky is still writing it, though another studio is making it.
Dynasty Warriors Origins looked cool too. We’ve never played any of the games but this looked good for us. We never played Legacy of Kain either, so need to research the series.
Monster Hunter Wilds was announced and it looked similar to World. These games look fine but were never really our thing. The Midnight Walk was weird and we do love stop gap animation, but it’s nothing that sold us. It’s almost like it would be more fun to watch than play, or the game would be better as an interactive movie.
The rest of the show was just ok for us. You had things like Hell is Us, which is a soulslike that combines the look of Death Stranding and Returnal. Not something we’re interested in. There were one or two other souls games that looked good graphically but, we really just don’t like souls combat.
Astro Bot is getting DLC, with some new bots and challenge levels. It was underwhelming, but it’s a part of a bigger upcoming update. Im interested to see everything in it.
Horizon Zero Dawn is getting a remaster with Forbidden West’s assets. This is really unneeded, I could get if you upped the settings for the PS5 version. They’ve said 10 hours of dialogue has been re-recorded and I’m wondering why? The new lines added could possibly add to the story. Why don’t they enhance the gameplay? The Lego Horizon Adventures game looked more interesting than the remaster.
Overall we’d give the show a 6 /10. It had some interesting games in Metro: Awakening and Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The Ghost of Yotei reveal was a surprise, but you had many games where your just thinking, we’ve seen this before. Why do we need this?
