The Questions No One Is Asking About PS5 Pro

PlayStation fans are now being divided because of the PS5 Pro with other groups joining in the argument. These groups are mostly against the idea. The primary sticking point is about price and performance.

The PC community has no leg to stand on in this. They have become used to buying a GPU for the cost of the PS5 Pro. The GPU is usually upgraded every 2 or 3 years.

Then we have people who are really looking forward to the PS5 Pro. Some said that others are mad because others can’t afford it and others talking about inflation. Most have been highlighting the hypocrisy of PC players.

This whole situation is worrying to us. $700 for a game console without a disk drive is crazy. Money isn’t the issue it’s the principle. It’s like Sony has seen how PC players will spend money on upgrades every few years and want to recreate that. We’ve been hearing about 4K 60-120fps for awhile now. We were told the base PS5 could do that.

Sony showed off some footage of Pro enhanced games like The Last of Us and it was slightly better but not worth the upgrade. The frame rate was higher but is it worth the extra cost? We say no. They didn’t show us any new games or tech demos running on it.

We also agreed Sony could be feeling the effect of no competition and can charge a high price and people will buy. Nintendo is a competitor, but they compete in different parts of the market. One is for hardcore AAA gaming while the other is for playing fun games at home or on the go.

Another thing is the argument of inflation. Inflation is happening and changing prices but that’s not an excuse. Outside of the 9th gen and PS3, every console has come out at $300-400 with inflation. The inflation is really bad but there’s still a limit to what people should accept.

The last thing this is just about high resolution and frame rate. You have all this power and it’s not being used for other things. Where is the advanced physics, destruction or AI? I’d be open to a console with enhancements like that, that changes the game itself.

The Pro’s presentation in a way proves we don’t really need it and you wonder if this is a scam. Why would you need all this GPU power when you have PSSR? PSSR is Sony’s AI upscaling utility, that takes lower resolution images and displays them at higher resolutions. Why not just make a new base PS5 and put the AI chips in it? Before the PS5 came out there was talk about AI upscaling being on it. I’ve heard some people say there’s no machine learning hardware in the PS5. Games like Returnal already upscaled 1080p to 4K, so this should be better. Is PSSR just a gimmick and isn’t the rival to the other upscalers?

We’re also concerned what this means for next gen. Will you now have to buy a disk drive? If inflation goes down will Sony lower prices? Could someone else bring out a console when Xbox becomes handheld PC?
